How to Plan your Romantic Wedding

If you get extra enjoyment out of fantasy, idealism, and little gestures of endearment, have every line from The Notebook memorized, or reach for the Nicholas Sparks books over anything else, you’re the type of person who should have a romantic wedding.

In general, a wedding is romantic: two people vowing to love and care for one another until the end of time. If you want to take it up another notch, there are even more things you incorporate into your big day. Here are the top ways you can have a romantic wedding.

Lighting

Lighting is the most important aspect to set the scene. If you’re inside, talk to your venue about their lighting options and if you can dim the lights. If you’re outside, string lights from trees or across the seating area to make it seem like a shimmering starry night.

Nothing is more romantic than the flicker of soft candlelight. Whether they’re real or fake, incorporating as many as possible as centerpieces, on candlesticks, and throughout the venue will make you feel like you’re in a romance movie.

Another lighting tip is to have your ceremony at sunset or after dark. There’s something about the sun going down that adds an extra hint of sexiness. Plus, if you want to get married outside during warmer months, you won’t have to worry about the sun beating down on you and your guests.

Venue

Your venue will set the tone for your entire wedding. You want the ambiance to match your romantic theme. Some of the ultimate romantic venues are gardens, beaches, or wineries. In the end, focus on finding a venue that tugs on your heartstrings and that you’ll remember for years to come.

Florals

Flowers are one of the best ways to set a romantic tone. Go for soft pastel pinks, whites, and purples. Choose flowers that symbolize attraction and radiance like roses, peonies, or ranunculus.

Overall, any flowers you use will create a warm, elegant, loving environment- especially if you outfit your venue with as many as possible. Add floral arrangements in different places like leading down the aisle, like arches, even hanging above the reception tables. The more flowers, the more dreamy.

Photo-Op Stations

Photo booths or backdrops are a super fun addition for guests to participate in and the perfect place for you to add more greenery and flowers. Trends like a neon sign of your new last name, or a wall of champagne glasses will also serve as picturesque areas.

Photos

If you want your guests to feel like they’re a part of your love story, show off all your pictures as a couple! Have a slideshow going before the ceremony or at the reception. If you put the pictures in chronological order, your friends and family will feel like they’re watching the two of you literally fall more and more in love.

Music

The traditional Bridal Chorus is slowly making an exit. Couples are opting for more modern music or at least music that better first their personality or wedding style. Use that to your benefit and find a song to walk down the aisle that's softer and more romantic.

Listen to some of these songs and see if they’ll fit your wedding vibe: “Turning Page” by Sleeping at Last, “Begin Again” or “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by The Piano Guys, or “Somebody to Love” by the Vitamin String Quartet.”

If you have the budget, you can also add your own violinist, vocalist, or even a wedding orchestra which can consist of a guitarist, violinist, bassist, and vocalist.

Dress

If you want to feel like you’ve just pranced out of a fairytale movie, go for a dress that’s flowy, full of lace, flowers, or tulle. You can also check out my last blog post which’s about how to choose a wedding dress.

Reception Exit

Instead of rice or bubbles, opt for sparklers or a lantern release. You’ll leave the night with high sentiment and gorgeous pictures.

Whether you incorporate all of these suggestions, or only one, your wedding day will be romantic as long as you’re authentic to your relationship and take the day for what it is: a union of two people madly in love.
